Dr. Michael Safdi, MD, FACP, MACG

Dr. Safdi, a member of the eMerge Health Board of Directors, co-founded eMerge Health in 2006. Dr. Safdi is a proven leader in the healthcare arena and is a past trustee of the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Safdi also represented the ACG on the Specialty Affairs Group for Socioeconomic Affairs of the American College of Medicine for 5 years 2005 – 2010. He also served as the Ohio Carrier Advisory Committee (CAC) representative for gastroenterology from 2004 – 2009. For the last 2 of those years he was co-chair of the national CAC for gastroenterology. Dr. Safdi has been a volunteer surveyor for AAAHC since 1996 and has served on its board Board of Trustees and survey standards and policies committee from 2006 – 2010. Dr. Safdi co-authored a series of articles under the auspices of the ACG/ASGE establishing benchmarks for quality in endoscopic procedures published simultaneously in the American Journal of Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr Safdi is a co-founder of Ohio GI and Liver Institute, founder of Consultants for Clinical Research, started 5 multiple surgery centers and other successful healthcare related businesses. Dr. Safdi is a much sought after national speaker on gastroenterology and the business of healthcare. In the 1980s, Dr. Safdi was a co-founder of a home infusion company with other gastroenterology, oncology and infectious disease practices around the country which was taken public within 2 years. Dr. Safdi co-founded one of the first 3 free standing outpatient endoscopy center in the United States and first in Ohio (a CON state at the time) which was sold to a national company within the first 3 years.

Since September of 2009, Dr. Safdi has been an Associate Medical Director in Gastroenterology with Janssen Services, LLC.


Dr. Alan Safdi, MD

Dr. Safdi co-founded eMerge Health in 2006. He is the president of Ohio Gastroenterology and Liver Institute. Dr. Safdi is also the past Chairman of the Cincinnati Medical Advisory Committee of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and is a proven leader in the healthcare arena. Dr. Safdi has established multiple surgery centers and is a co-founder of Ohio GI and Liver Institute, Consultants for Clinical Research and other successful healthcare businesses. Dr. Safdi co-founded one of the first free standing outpatient endoscopy center in the United States which was sold to a national company within the first 3 years.

Dr. Safdi received his medical degree from The University of Cincinnati Medical School and his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. He graduated with top honors with Phi Beta Kappa from Northwestern and the honorary society for the top students of A.O.A. from medical school. He did his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Cincinnati. His residency in Internal Medicine was at the University of California in San Diego. Dr. Safdi is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology and is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. He has published in numerous peer reviewed journals in Gastroenterology and been involved in clinical research for 30 years. He has been elected as President Elect of the Ohio Gastroenterology Society to represent the state wide organization.


Dr. Pradeep Bekal, MD

Dr. Bekal co-founded eMerge Health in 2006. He is a governing board member & partner at Ohio Gastroenterology and Liver Institute, one of the largest gastroenterology groups in the nation. Dr. Bekal serves as a consultant to various pharmaceutical and surgical accessory manufacturing companies.

Dr. Bekal graduated from Madras Medical School in Madras, India, and completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. His Gastroenterology Fellowship was completed at the Brooklyn Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Bekal also completed an Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh and he has a special interest in endoscopic modalities of treatment in complex pancreatobiliary disorders including pancreatic and biliary manometry and endoscopic ultrasound. Dr. Bekal is Board Certified in Gastroenterology. He previously served on the Quality Improvement Committee for Alliance Partners and is actively involved in teaching medical students from the University of Cincinnati and residents from Christ Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and an active member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
